
MHU narrowly edges Converse for second win of season
Lions' team event completes comeback in dramatic meet versus Valkyries.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (2-0) defeated Converse (0-2) by a score of 234.060-233.110 Saturday afternoon.
Leading 33.55-33.50 after the Compulsory Event, the Lions began to pull away slightly taking the Acro Event by a score of 25.70-24.85. They scored highest in Heat 1, the 5 Element, with a 9.60.
Converse erased the Lions' lead in the Pyramid Event, taking the event by a score of 28.05-25.85. Despite dropping the event, the Lions scored a 9.75 in Heat 3, the Open Heat, which was the highest scoring heat between either team.
The Valkyries led 86.40-85.10 after the first three events.
Mars Hill took the Toss Event narrowly by a score of 26.00-25.60. In the Tumbling Event, Converse won five of six heats, scoring highest in the Aerial Pass with an 8.70. Mars Hill took the 6 Element Pass, recording their highest score of the event with an 8.675.
The meet came down to the Team Event. Mars Hill trailed by just over two points. Scoring a 76.41 to Converse's 73.41, the Lions rallied back and claimed their second win of the season.
Mars Hill opens their home slate on Thursday, February 20 when they face Newberry. The meet is set for a 6 p.m. start inside Chambers Gymnasium.
