
MHU wins season opening meet over FMU
FLORENCE, S.C. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (1-0) defeated Francis Marion (0-1) by a score of 229.900-198.545 Sunday afternoon in their first meet of the 2025 season.
The Lions led by nearly seven points after the Compulsory Event, scoring highest in the toss heat with a 9.80. They scored a 9.45 in the pyramid for their second 9+ in the event.
In the Acro Event, the Lions received 25.50 of 30.00 points in the three heats, scoring highest in the 5-Element (8.70). The Patriots scored just 16.35, nearly 10 points less than the Lions.
Heading into the half, the Lions extended their lead by three more points, scoring 26.50 points out of a possible 29.70. They scored highest in the third heat, the Open Heat, with a 9.40.
Mars Hill continued to reel off event wins, taking the Toss by a score of 24.10-22.70. In the Tumbling event, the Lions scored highest in the 6-Element Pass with an 8.150.
Closing out the win, the Lions took the Team Event by a score of 74.35-65.37.
The Lions return to the mats on Saturday, February 15 when they face Converse on the road at 3 p.m.
