Football places five on Don Hansen All-Region teams
BROOKFIELD, Ill. - Mars Hill College had five players named to the 2010 Don Hansen All-Super Region Two Team. Running back Jonas Randolph, defensive end Maurice Harris, and linebacker Rudy Cabral were named to the first team. Wide receiver P.J. Gore was named to the second team, and tight end Allen Woerner was elected to the third team.
Randolph makes the team for a second consecutive season. He was also named to the 2010 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches' All-America Team and Daktronics All-Southeast Region and All-South Atlantic Conference first teams. Randolph led the league in rushing for two consecutive seasons. Through three seasons, he has 37 touchdowns, 3,438 rushing yards and 222 points scored, all school career records.
Harris was also named to the 2010 Associated Press Little All-America Football third team, Daktronics All-America second team, and Daktronics All-Southeast Region and All-South Atlantic Conference first teams. He led the league with 11 sacks.
Cabral led the league with 104 total tackles in 2010. He was named to the Daktronics Super Region II and All-South Atlantic Conference first teams.
Gore became the school's first 1,000-plus yard receiver in 2010. He ranked fourth in the league in receiving yards per game, tied a Mars Hill record with three receiving touchdowns in a single game, and was voted to the All-South Atlantic Conference first team.
Woerner ranked second on the team in receiving touchdowns (6) and third on the team in receptions (22) and receiving yards (288) last season. He was an All-South Atlantic Conferece first team selection last season and was featured in the 2011 Cactus Bowl, the NCAA Division II Senior All-Star Game, earlier this month.
The First Team and Second Team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2010 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Tam will be named later this month.
The Don Hansen Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selection NCAA Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
Albany State led the way with seven All-Region honorees. Tusculum, Wingate and North Alabama had six selections each. Delta State, Carson-Newman, Valdosta State and Mars Hill had five honorees each.
