Hickman hits buzzer-beater to down Newberry in home opener

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-2, 1-0 SAC) defeated Newberry (0-3, 0-1 SAC) by a score of 76-75 in their home opener Wednesday night.
With two seconds remaining on the clock, Jay Hickman hit the game-winning three-pointer, his 10th point of the contest to secure the Lions' first win of the season.
The Lions shot a game-high 50 percent in the second half and hit 4-of-13 three-pointers attempted. They outscored Newberry 46-41 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Newberry led the first half 34-30 in a tightly contested 20 minutes of play.
