Eagles push late, down Lions

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's basketball team (5-18, 5-15 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (16-9, 13-8 SAC) by a score of 78-65 Wednesday night.
In a tightly-contested first half, the Lions trailed Carson-Newman 37-34 despite shooting 56 percent to their 41 percent. The Lions trailed by six at the final buzzer before a deep three from Kadyn Dawkins cut the deficit to three. The Eagles hit 9-of-10 of their free throw attempts; the Lions did not attempt a free throw in the first 20 minutes of play.
Isaiah Jones led all players with 12 points in the half followed by Kadyn Dawkins' 10. Tripp Davis led the Eagles with nine followed by EJ Bush's eight.
Despite shooting just 35 percent from the floor in the second half, the Eagles were able to capitalize at the free throw line, hitting 18-of-22 in the second half. The Lions shot 39 percent from the floor, but only reached the line a total of nine times.
