Belin nets 26 versus No. 4 Royals
The Mars Hill men’s basketball team (4-5, 4-2 SAC) was defeated by No. 4 ranked Queens Royals (7-1, 4-1 SAC) by a score of 95-80 Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-5, 4-2 SAC) was defeated by No. 4 ranked Queens Royals (7-1, 4-1 SAC) by a score of 95-80 Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Both teams shot well from the floor with the Lions hitting nearly 52 percent of their shots and hitting 50 percent of their threes with seven in the first 20 minutes of play. The Royals netted 46 in the half, taking the lead in the final second of play with a three-pointer from Quan McCluney.
Jamari Smith led the Royals with 12 points in the half while Jay'Den Turner pulled down eight rebounds. Kadyn Dawkins and Trey Belin led the Lions offensively with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Belin hit four of his five first half three-point attempts.
The Royals shot nearly 53 percent in the second half, netting 49 points. Queens ended the day with 60 points down low as Turner and Jamari Smith each scored over 20 in the contest.
Belin continued his hot shooting, ending the afternoon with a team-high 26 points, going 10-of-15 from the floor and hitting six threes. Dawkins added 23 in an outstanding, well-rounded performance.
