Bertilsson scores fifth of season in SAC opener versus Eagles

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-2-1, 0-1 SAC) was downed by Carson-Newman (2-2-0, 1-0 SAC) Wednesday night by a score of 2-1.
Less than a minute into the game, Yannick Kranz tucked in his first goal of the season inside the left post. Mars Hill responded in the 34th minute as Sebastian Bertilsson scored his fifth of the season, matching his spring totals in just his fifth game of the year. Peter Plougmand picked up the assist, extending his point-streak to three games.
In the 78th minute, the Lions were called for a foul inside the box, giving the Eagles the penalty kick. Thaylan Silva netted the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal for his fifth of the season.
Less than a minute later, the Lions were inches from tying the game at two as Dan Roth's shot from the top of the box clanged off the left post.
The Eagles outshot the Lions 10-4 with Silva and Harry Whitehead leading the team with two shots apiece. Bertilsson led the Lions with two attempts.
Bram Kaarsgaren made one save in the win while Brennan Whalen stopped two shots in the loss.
Mars Hill concludes their four-game roadtrip on Sunday afternoon versus Tusculum. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
