MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team (7-5-1, 4-4 SAC) defeated Catawba (6-5-2, 2-5-1 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Saturday afternoon inside Meares Stadium.
With the game tied at one in the 53rd minute, Kevonte Willoughby-Williams netted the game-winning marker, beating a Catawba defender one-on-one and blasting a shot inside the far post from the right-hand side.
The Lions opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Sebastian Bertilsson scored his 11th of the season, heading in a cross from Jeppe Christensen.
Nico Morillo tied the game in the 20th minute of play, putting home a rebound from a Christian Dibb shot.
Catawba outshot the Lions 8-7 in the first half, but the Lions returned the favor in the second. Both teams attempted 15 shots in the contest.
Brennan Whalen made two saves for his seventh win of the year. Zak Stiffler stopped three in the loss.
Mars Hill returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 23 when they face Anderson on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
