MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (9-5-2, 5-4-1 SAC) defeated Newberry (3-12, 3-7 SAC) by a score of 2-1 on Senior Day Saturday within Meares Stadium.
Kevonte Willoughby-Williams opened the scoring just 1:35 into the first half, finishing off a pass from Luke Manley. The strike was his ninth of the season.
In the 12th minute, the Wolves tied the game at one as Harry McDonnell headed in an Adrian Garcia corner kick for his fourth of the season.
Sebastian Bertilsson scored his 12th of the season in the 61st minute, heading in a Willoughby-Williams cross to net the game-winner.
The Lions outshot the Wolves 14-9 with Bertilsson leading all players with six. Noah Vezzu led Newberry with three shots.
Brennan Whalen picked up his ninth win of the year making four saves. Pablo Cubas made five saves on the day.
The Lions punched their ticket into the South Atlantic Conference tournament, currently sitting in sixth place.
Mars Hill closes out the regular season on Wednesday, November 3 when they face Wingate. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
