MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-1) was defeated by Converse (2-0) by a score of 3-1 Wednesday night.
Tied at one entering the second half, Nicholas Hartung broke the tie in the 53rd minute with his first of the season. In the 84th minute, Guilherme Fontes tapped home the insurance marker.
After allowing an own goal in the 21st minute, Mars Hill responded two minutes later as Aimar Banuls launched his first of his career under the crossbar.
Jorge Perez Prada led all players with four shots followed by three from Banuls. Hayden Gensler led the Valkyries with three shots.
Parker Davis made two saves in his Lions' debut.
Mars Hill returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 9 when they take on Coker. The first South Atlantic Conference match of the year is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
