Lions down Newberry on Senior Day

The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-6-6, 2-3-5 SAC) defeated Newberry (3-8-2, 1-7-2 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Friday evening in their final home game of the 2023 season.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-6-6, 2-3-5 SAC) defeated Newberry (3-8-2, 1-7-2 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Friday evening in their final home game of the 2023 season.

In the fifth minute of play, Peter Plougmand was taken down inside the box and awarded a penalty kick. He converted for his 12th goal of the season, putting the Lions up early.

In the 20th minute of play, Carrick Bromage found Plougmand, who blew the ball by the Wolves' goalkeeper for his second of the contest, doubling the Lions' lead.

Shortly into the second half, Ethan Orozco cut the Lions' lead in half with his fourth of the season, heading home the loose ball.

Mars Hill outshot Newberry 22-12 with Plougmand leading all players with nine shots.

James Price made two saves in the win.

Prior to the start of the contest, Joshua Doran, Caden Sheely, Nolan McMillen, Luke Manley, Lorenz Hoover, Alex Mee, Jorge Perez Prada, Muhammad Bilal, Connor McConkey, Caleb Byrley, Thomas Bertelsen, Riley Browning, Triston Klapprodt, David Straube, Jop Bleijlevens, Lee Overman, Alex Ruvalcaba, and Raymond Brooks were recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the men's soccer program.
