Plougmand nets fourth of season, Bears force draw

HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-2-4, 0-0-3 SAC) drew with Lenoir-Rhyne (1-2-3, 1-1-2 SAC) 2-2 Saturday evening.
The Lions trailed 1-0 entering the second half. In the 61st minute, Diego Fernandez scored his second of the season to tie the game up at one. In the 80th minute, Peter Plougmand buried his fourth of the season, giving the Lions the 2-1 lead with just over 10 minutes to play. Matti Pickel earned his first collegiate assist.
The Bears tied the game with 13 seconds remaining as Raul Canas was able to tie the game.
Lenoir-Rhyne opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Adrian Martina netted his fourth of the season. He led all players with four shot attempts.
Plougmand led the Lions with three shot attempts.
Both Juan Basabe and Logan Cassel made two saves for their respective squads.
The Lions return to Meares Stadium on Wednesday, September 27 when they host Carson-Newman. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
