
Catawba outlasts late Lions' push

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-3-5, 0-1-4 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (5-1-1, 3-0-1 SAC) by a score of 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
In the 58th minute, Catawba's Oscar Taylor netted his first of the season to put the Indians up by two. Just over 10 minutes later, Jop Bleijlevens scored his first of the season to cut their lead in half, taking the long pass from Cam Watts and blasting it by the Catawba goalkeeper.
A series of opportunities late in the second half by Mars Hill were blocked by the collapsing Indians' defense. Mars Hill outshot Catawba in the second half 17-13 in their comeback bid.
Joe Bennett opened the scoring in the 26th minute, scoring his second of the season off of a pass from Joseph Allerton.
Peter Plougmand led all players with six shots, three on target. Allerton led Catawba with three shots, two on target.
Zak Stiffler stopped five shots in the win while James Price made three saves.
The Lions take on Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, October 3 at 3:30 p.m. on the road.
