Lions Lead After Opening Day of Igloo Invite
Mars Hill sets several new meet records on Friday
SEWANEE, TENN. – The Mars Hill men's swimming team is in first place after the opening day of the Igloo Invite. Mars Hill earned 542 points, well ahead of second place Sewanee's 338.
Drew Rosser, Trey Mason, Ryan Martin and Vitor Goncalves set a new meet record in the 200 Freestyle Relay, finishing in 1:26.42. Rosser led a 1-2-3 MHU sweep in the 100 Breaststroke, winning in 58.50 seconds. Brady Rothschild finished in second (59.12), followed by Brian Davis (59.53). Goncalves won the 100 Freestyle (47.83), followed by Mason (47.86), Rosser (48.20) and Martin (48.68).
David Hallberg won the 500 Freestyle in a meet record 4:50.87. Harrison Butler won the 200 Backstroke in a meet record 1:54.74, followed by Grant Greenhill (1:56.97). Matthew Walker led a MHU podium sweep in the 1650 Freestyle after he touched first with a meet record time of 16:46.50. Brett Malmstrom finished in second place (17:07.99), followed by Hallberg (17:11.65).
Butler, Mason, Rosser and Goncalves won the 400 Medley Relay in a meet record time of 3:33.15. Goncalves, Malmstrom, Hallberg and Mason claimed the 800 Freestyle Relay in a meet record 7:04.82.
The meet continues Saturday with preliminaries at 9 a.m. CST, followed by finals at 4 p.m.
