MARS HILL, N.C.-- On a recent Saturday, Mars Hill's women's basketball team spent time volunteering at My Sister's Place in nearby Marshall.
The team spent a few hours helping with chores around the facility. The team broke into two crews: the indoor crew and outdoor crew. Members of the team swept floors, mopped, cleaned windows, made beds, mowed and weeded. The Lions had a great experience giving back to the community and spent time bonding over their service.
"I'm glad we were able to go to the house and put forth half our day for people that needed our time," said senior Amanda Westbrook. "It's fun to work together as a team to impact the lives of others."
"Volunteering for My Sister's Place made me realize how fortunate I am to live the life that I do and not take the small things for granted," said sophomore Genice Lance.
My Sister's Place is a non-profit agency that seeks to end domestic violence and sexual assault by offering direct assistance to victims and inspiring awareness in the community. Services offered include a crisis line, an emergency safe house for victims and their family, individual counseling, court support and children's programs.
