Mars Hill strikes twice in second half, downs FMU
The Mars Hill women's soccer team (3-2) defeated Francis Marion (1-3-2) by a score of 2-1 inside Meares Stadium Wednesday evening.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (3-2) defeated Francis Marion (1-3-2) by a score of 2-1 inside Meares Stadium Wednesday evening.
After a scoreless first half, the Patriots struck first. Less than five minutes into the second half, Francis Marion's Kylie Reif scored her first goal of the season. Shortly after, Carla Humera assisted on the game-tying goal, feeding a pass to Kenzie Quinley who scored her first as a Lion to knot the game at one.
Zoie Steinkamp scored the game-winning goal just over eight minutes later, which led the Lions to a 2-1 victory. The goal was assisted by Celine Hartung.
Both Quinley and Steinkamp had four shots to lead all players. Out of Quinley's four shots, three were shot on target. Humera had two shot attempts and an assist in the game. Camryn Miller made three saves in the win.
"This win is huge for us," junior midfielder and team captain Julia Luna said. "We needed this confidence as we are going into a lot of conference games. I think this will prove to us that we can actually compete with these teams."
Mars Hill returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 21 when they host Tusculum. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
