Women's Tennis Loses Tough Decision to Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Mars Hill women’s tennis team dropped a close decision to South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday, February 25.

HICKORY, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's tennis team dropped a close decision to South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday, February 25. The Bears were able to topple the Lions 5-4. MHU falls to 3-6 and 0-3 within conference while L-R improves to 5-4, 1-0.

Samantha Echevarria was able to tally a singles victory over Dominique Bruce in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3. Echevarria teamed up with Jade Henke to take down Julia Ponomareva and Lucy Stofberg 8-4 in doubles action.

Jasha Geerdink dropped her opening set 4-6 to Marta Escanero Funes but was able to rally and take the next two sets 7-5 and 6-2 to claim the singles win. Geerdink was also able to collect a doubles win as she paired up with Lucy McLaurin to defeat Bruce and Funes 8-5.
