Lions Fall to #10 Flagler in Season-Opener
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions’ men’s soccer team lost to no. 10 Flagler, 3-2 in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. It was the season opener for both squads.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team lost to no. 10 Flagler, 3-2 in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. It was the season opener for both squads.
Johnny Cosgrove gave the Saints a 1-0 lead at the 38:18 mark from 20 yards out. The goal was assisted by Marco Warren. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Alex Mullen tied the contest scoring 40 seconds into the second half. He found the back left corner of the net off a pass from Kenny Anderson.
Flagler took the lead back 11 minutes later (57:30) when Caleb Austin scored an unassisted goal.
Forty-two seconds later (58:12), Tom Allison scored on a header off a corner kick sent in by Jack Donaldson.
Kevin Keenan notched the match winner at the 85:29 mark kicking in a loose ball in front of the net. The Lions were unable to tie the contest in the final four minutes of play.
Flagler out shot the Lions, 17-10. The Saints edged MHU in corner kicks, 8-5. Camp Bissell played 90 minutes in goal for Flagler and made six saves. Oliver Pannell also played the entire match in the net for the Lions and made four saves.
Mars Hill will play at UNC Pembroke on September 8. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
