Men's Soccer Beats Wingate, 3-2
The Lions’ men’s soccer team defeated SAC foe Wingate University, 3-2 Friday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Serge Kebbeh notched the match winner at the 87:19 mark off a header from a corner kick.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team defeated SAC foe Wingate University, 3-2 Friday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs fell to 6-3 on the season and also 3-2 in league action.
Felipe Ferraro put the Lions ahead 1-0 at the 15:25 mark when he beat a Wingate defender on a breakaway. Gregg Munn provided the pass to Ferraro on the score. That was all the scoring the first half would see. Shots were close with Wingate edging Mars Hill 5-4 in the first frame.
Shaun Gadsby tied the contest at 1-all in the 53rd minute scoring from the left side of the box from around 20 yards out. The score was unassisted.
Cody Foreman scored his first goal of the season blasting a shot that found the back of the net from around 35 yards out to put the Lions back on top, 2-1 in the 58th minute. Serge Kebbeh made the pass to Foreman on the goal.
Gui Andrade tied the contest (2-2) four minutes later on a penalty kick.
Kebbeh notched the match winner at the 87:19 mark off a header from a corner kick. The ball was sent in by Jack Donaldson. It was Kebbeh's second goal of the season. Both goals have been match winning shots.
Wingate outshot the Lions, 15-9. The Bulldogs edged the Lions in corner kicks, 7-6 and fouls, 13-12. Both teams were called offsides twice. Chris Mitchell played the entire match in the net for the Lions and made three saves. Sanjit Kang also played the entire contest in goal for Wingate and also made three stops.
Mars Hill will play at Lenoir-Rhyne on October 9. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
