Ferraro, Munn Named All-Conference
ROCK HILL, S.C.—The 2013 All-South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Team was released Wednesday, with Mars Hill’s Felipe Ferraro and Gregg Munn each earning Second-Team All-SAC honors.
ROCK HILL, S.C.—The 2013 All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Team was released Wednesday, with Mars Hill's Felipe Ferraro and Gregg Munn each earning Second-Team All-SAC honors.
Ferraro has earned all-conference honors each of the last three seasons. Munn is a second-time honoree at defender. The senior duo has played a key role in Mars Hill's success this season and over the course of their four-year careers. The #6-seed Lions upset #3-seed Carson-Newman last night to advance to the 2013 Food Lion SAC Championship Semifinals at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill. MHU will face the #7 seed Anderson at 4:00 p.m.
Ferraro leads Mars Hill in scoring this season with four goals and one assist. His creativity has generated numerous scoring chances for the Lions. The forward has earned one First-Team and two Second-Team All-SAC honors in his Lion career. The senior has scored 16 goals and dished out 14 assists in his MHU career. Included among those goals are five game-winners, including a game-winner at Lincoln Memorial this season.
Munn has been a fixture on Mars Hill's back line this season and over the course of his Lion career. The senior defender scored the game-winner in Tuesday's SAC Quarterfinal victory at Carson-Newman and has also assisted on two goals this season. Munn has five goals and 11 assists in his Lion career. He has previously been a Capital One Academic All-District honoree and a member of the 2012 All-SAC First Team.
Ferraro and Munn have helped Mars Hill to a 48-23-5 record over the past four seasons. The duo helped the Lions to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012, the school's first-ever outright South Atlantic Conference Championship in 2012 and reached the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division II National Championships in 2011.
Ross Frame of Carson-Newman was named the 2013 SAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year. Frame led the conference in scoring with 15 goals and nine assists.
Jonathan Onyeaka of Queens was named the conference's Freshman of the Year after scoring four goals, including three game-winners for the regular-season conference champions. Queens head coach Oliver Carias was named the SAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.
