Lions To Face Anderson in SAC Semifinals

The Lions are the #6 seed in the tournament. Gregg Munn scored and Chris Mitchell made six saves in net to help MHU earn a 1-0 upset victory over #3 seed Carson-Newman in the Quarterfinal round. Anderson, the #7 seed, upset #2 seed Wingate in the Quarterfinals. Martin Brain scored in the 82nd-minute and Bo Haug made six saves to pace the Trojans to the victory. The Lions carry a 7-9 record into the Semifinals, while AU is 11-5-3 overall. Friday's contest gets underway at 4:00 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C.
Anderson won the regular-season matchup between the two teams by a 1-0 final. Second-Team All-SAC forward Andre Carle netted the game-winner. The Trojans eliminated Mars Hill in last season's SAC Semifinals with a victory on penalty kicks. AU is a perfect 10-0 in the SAC Championship Tournament since joining the conference in 2010.
Mars Hill is led offensively by Second-Team All-SAC selection Felipe Ferraro, who tied Alex Mullen for the team lead with four goals. The Lions ranked ninth in goals per game in the conference during the regular-season. Carle leads Anderson with 11 goals entering Friday's contest. The Trojans were fourth in the SAC in scoring this season.
Anchoring the Lions' back line is Munn, a Second-Team All-SAC defender. The senior scored the game-winner in Tuesday's victory over Carson-Newman and has notched two assists this season. Lars Zimmerman was a First-Team All-SAC selection for Anderson. He has tallied two goals and an assist.
Lion goalkeeper Chris Mitchell is coming off his fifth shutout of the season. The sophomore boasts a 0.89 goals-against average and .811 save percentage. Anderson keeper Bo Haug has notched five shutouts to go along with a 1.00 goals-against average and .782 save percentage.
The winner of Friday's Semifinal matchup will advance to face Queens or Lincoln Memorial for the SAC Championship. The Championship match will take place Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Manchester Meadows.
