PEMBROKE, N.C.-- Mars Hill's men's soccer team fell to UNC Pembroke 1-0 in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at Varsity Grounds.
James Casserly's goal in the 36th-minute provided the only goal the Braves would need. UNCP outshot Mars Hill 14-10, including by a 9-4 margin in the first half. Ryan Hanson made two saves to earn the shutout. Mars Hill falls to 0-2 on the season. Pembroke improved to 2-0 with the victory.
Casserly's goal came off a corner kick by Jeff MacDonald. The Braves had nine corner kicks to the Lions' one.
Mars Hill outshot the Braves 6-5 in the second half. The Lions got off four shots to one by the Braves in the final 20 minutes but were unable to break through.
Oliver Pannell made four saves and played all 90 minutes in net for MHU. Felipe Ferraro and Serge Kebbeh each had a shot on goal.
Mars Hill will continue non-conference play this Wednesday, Sep. 11 with a 7:00 p.m. match at Lees-McRae.
