Lions Close Regular-Season with Shutout at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C.-- Mars Hill's men's soccer team closed out the regular-season with a 2-0 victory at Catawba Saturday night at Frock Field.

SALISBURY, N.C.-- Mars Hill's men's soccer team closed out the regular-season with a 2-0 victory at Catawba Saturday night at Frock Field.

Thor-Joak Stenberg and Reiss Garwood each scored goals to pace the Lions to the victory. Chris Mitchell made four saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Mars Hill finishes the regular season 6-9 overall and 6-5 in SAC matches. MHU finishes the regular season as the six-seed and will face Carson-Newman in the first round of the 2013 Food Lion SAC Championship. Catawba concludes the season 8-7-1 overall and 4-6-1 in conference matches.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through halftime. Catawba held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the half.

Garwood got the Lions on the board in the 60th-minute. The goal would turn out to be the freshman's first-career game-winner. Stenberg added the insurance goal, his second of the season, at the 74:07 mark.

Catawba held an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal. Frankie Cardelle made three saves for the Indians.

Mars Hill will travel to Carson-Newman for the first round of the 2013 Food Lion SAC Championship this Tuesday. The time of that match is yet to be announced.
