Lions Upset Carson-Newman to Advance in SAC Tournament
JEFFERSON CITY, TENN.-- Mars Hill's men's soccer team scored a timely goal and got a shut down effort defensively to upset #3 seed Carson-Newman in a 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship Quarterfinal matchup, held Tuesday night at McCown Field.

Senior Gregg Munn scored in the first half to give the Lions the advantage. Chris Mitchell made six saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season. The #6-seeded Lions advance to the Semifinals of the SAC Tournament to face #7 seed Anderson. The Trojans upset #2 seed Wingate in Quarterfinal play Tuesday night. Mars Hill improves to 7-9 on the season. Carson-Newman falls to 13-4 overall and are eliminated from the SAC Tournament.
Munn picked an opportune time to cash in his first goal of the season. The was cleared outside, but Munn tracked down the ball and fired a shot that was deflected in at the 17:15 mark.
Mitchell and the Lion defense was able to make that goal hold up for the final margin. The sophomore goalkeeper improved to 6-5 on the season.
Rumwald Le Guevel made one save for Carson-Newman before being ejected on a red card in the 18th-minute. Nick Martin made four saves in relief of Le Guevel. Each team recorded 12 shots and six on goal, while the Lions held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Mars Hill and Anderson will meet in the SAC Semifinals Friday at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. Match time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
