Corsini Sets School Record at NC State Invitational
The Mars Hill men’s swimming team finished in eighth place in the season-opening NC State Invitational held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Ludovico Corsini finished in third place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with new school record time of 56.79 seconds.
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's swimming team finished in eighth place in the season-opening NC State Invitational held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Lions wrapped up the 11-team all-North Carolina team event with 369 points.
Ludovico Corsini finished in third place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with new school record time of 56.79 seconds. Corsini defeated swimmers from NCAA Division I schools East Carolina, N.C. State and Davidson. Brady Rothschild finished the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 21st place (1:01.51) along with Brian Davis and Samuel Ransom. The 200 Medley Relay team of David Hallberg, Corsini, Shane Whicker and Ryan Martin finished in 19th place with a time of 1:40.92. Hallberg and Whicker each swam in the 100 Yard Butterfly, with Hallberg finishing in 55.45 seconds and Whicker in 55.63 seconds. Trey Mason was the highest-finishing Lion in the 200 Yard Freestyle with Justin Gale, Brett Malmstrom, Martin and Zach Muehl also competing in the event.
Hallberg recorded a ninth place finish in the 1650 Freestyle. In the 100 yard Freestyle, Martin crossed the line in 50.45 seconds for a 33rd place finish. Rothschild was the second-highest Division II finisher in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, picking up a 12th place finish. Malmstrom was the top Lion finisher in the 200 Yard Butterfly in 2:03.18. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the quartet of Corsini, Gale, Martin and Mason finished in 3:21.62
Mars Hill opens the home portion of the 2014-15 season on Saturday, October 18 against Lenoir-Rhyne.
