Winter Weather Forces Softball Cancellation
Thursday’s scheduled home softball doubleheader against Salem International has been cancelled due to snow. No makeup date has been set at this time. The two teams were scheduled to play at Ponder Field beginning at 1 p.m.
MARS HILL, N.C. – Thursday's scheduled home softball doubleheader against Salem International has been cancelled due to snow. No makeup date has been set at this time. The two teams were scheduled to play at Ponder Field beginning at 1 p.m.
Mars Hill will resume their season this weekend in Savannah, Ga. in the Armstrong tournament. Mars Hill begins the tournament against the host Pirates at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning before facing Saint Leo (Fla) at 12:30 in a battle of the Lions. Mars Hill will face Saint Leo again on Sunday at 12:30 before wrapping up the tournament against Armstrong at 2:30.
The Lions enter the weekend tournament with a 4-0 record after home sweeps of Virginia Intermont and Mount Olive. The doubleheader against Mount Olive was one for the record books, as the Lions set a school record with 28 total bases and tied the mark for most home runs in a game with four in their 11-5 game one victory over the Trojans. The 15 runs scored by Mars Hill in a 15-14 game two triumph are the fourth-most in a contest in program history.
The Lions' next scheduled home doubleheader is Saturday, March 1 against Young Harris at 1 p.m.
