Hockaday Named to All-Southeast Region Team
Mars Hill senior Jamie Hockaday has been named to the 2014 Daktronics Softball All-Southeast Region Team.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Mars Hill senior Jamie Hockaday has been named to the 2014 Daktronics Softball All-Southeast Region Team.
Hockaday was named the second baseman on the First Team and moves on to the All-America ballot. In 2014, Hockaday set the Mars Hill single-season record in on-base percentage (.556) and walks (30) while leading the South Atlantic Conference in RBI (59), on-base percentage and slugging percentage (.737). She finished 10th in on-base percentage, 12th in RBI per game and 13th in batting average among NCAA Division II players. Hockaday received her Bachelor's Degree during Mars Hill's graduation ceremony last Saturday.
Hockaday hit safely in 34 of Mars Hill's 44 games this season with 21 multi-hit games. The Butner, N.C. native drove in five runs three times this season and concluded her career with a walk-off double in a 12-4 victory over Newberry on April 18. She also set the single-game record for putouts with 17 against Saint Leo (Fla.) on February 15.
Armstrong's Alexis Mercer was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year. Mercer hit .439 with 22 home runs and 49 RBI. North Georgia's Victoria Sink was named the Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year after going 24-1 with a 1.68 ERA.
As members of the first team, Hockaday and 16 other Southeast Region players will appear on the All-America ballot. The Daktronics All-America program honors student-athletes in Division II athletic programs. The voting, nominations and calculations are all conducted by the region's sports information directors.
