Hockaday, Stanek Earn All-SAC Honors
Senior Jamie Hockaday and junior Robyn Stanek have been named to the 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference softball team, league officials announced on Wednesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior Jamie Hockaday and junior Robyn Stanek have been named to the 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference softball team, league officials announced on Wednesday.
Hockaday was named All-SAC First Team at second base, with Stanek taking home All-SAC Second Team third base honors. Hockaday makes her first appearance on the All-SAC team, while Stanek is on the squad for the second consecutive season.
Hockaday rewrote the record books this season, cracking the top ten in seven single-season offensive categories. Hockaday is the new single season record holder in on base percentage (.556) and walks (30) and is among the top five in batting average (.466-2nd), RBI (59-2nd) and slugging percentage (.737-3rd). She led the SAC in RBI, on-base percentage and slugging percentage this season and finished the season 14th in the nation in batting average and 10th in RBI per game among NCAA Division II players.
Hockaday ranks third in program history in career batting average (.389) and slugging percentage (.610) and is second in on base percentage (.478). The Butner, N.C. native also set a single game record with 17 putouts against Saint Leo on February 15.
Stanek batted .338 with a team-leading 11 home runs while driving in 34 runs. Stanek had a 19-game hitting streak from March 15-April 10, the second-longest hitting streak in school history. On March 22, Stanek tied the single game record for total bases with 10 in a 10-9 victory over Wingate. Stanek also hit two grand slams in a doubleheader against Coker on March 30. In 2013, Stanek was named All-SAC First Team third base.
As a team, Mars Hill set new single season records in walks (174), home runs (48), doubles (85), RBIs (271), runs scored (291), total bases (649), team batting average (.323) slugging percentage (.509) and on base percentage (.411).
Carson-Newman outfielder Kelli Hensley was named the SAC Player of the Year, with Lenoir-Rhyne's Maryann Hoskins taking home SAC Pitcher of the Year honors. Anderson's Courtney Czentnar and Tommy Hewitt were named the Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year.
