Mars Hill downs NGU to close out 2022

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (3-8) defeated North Greenville (1-10) by a score of 64-61 Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions opened the contest on a 13-3 run and led by as many as 11 in the first half. With under 11 minutes remaining in the frame, North Greenville went on a 9-0 run to close the gap to 25-23 with under seven minutes to play in the first. Mars Hill responded with a 7-0 run to rebuild their advantage.
Mars Hill shot 50 percent from the floor and hit seven of their 12 three-point attempts. Jackson Reid led all players with 14 points, going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Isaiah Jones netted 11 points while Rajuan Conner pulled down seven rebounds, adding six points.
The Lions led by as many as 12 points with 15:49 left to play. The Crusaders once again rallied to pull within two after a 10-0 run over a span of 2:45. North Greenville, with their persistent push, took the lead with 7:08 remaining, going up 53-52.
Tied at 61 with less than a minute to play, Jones collected a rebound and put back the loose ball to give the Lions the 63-61 lead. A free throw make from Conner with 22 seconds left in the contest sealed the win for Mars Hill.
Conner led all players with seven points in the frame followed by five from Kory Davis.
Reid led all players with 17 points, adding five assists and five rebounds. Conner collected the double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Jones ended the day with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Mars Hill returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, January 4 when they take on Emory & Henry on the road. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
