Lions open 2022 season on road at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (0-1) was defeated 18-8 by Montevallo (1-0) in their 2022 season opener.
The Falcons went up 5-2 after the first 15 minutes of play with Thomas Vaesen netting three goals in the first. Zac Carrigan scored the Lions second goal and assisted on Brandon Woodward's first career goal.
The second quarter saw the lowest scoring frame as the teams combined for four goals. The Falcons scored three times to the Lions lone goal scored by Carrigan.
Montevallo drastically increased their lead in the third as they outscored the Lions 9-1 with Vaesen and Scott Friant scoring twice in the stanza. Trevor Kennedy scored the Lions' only goal in the quarter with the assist being credited to Carrigan.
Carrigan netted three more goals in the fourth quarter as the Lions outscored Montevallo 4-1 in the final frame.
Vaesen led all players with nine points (7g, 2a) followed by Friant's five (3g, 2a). Carrigan led the Lions with seven points (5g, 2a) while Kennedy added a goal and an assist.
Kyle Little earned the win with seven saves in 45 minutes of play. Shane Hecht was credited with the loss.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, February 9 when they face Lees-McRae on the road. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
