Carrigan sets MHU career points record on road versus Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (4-10, 0-9 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (9-6, 5-4 SAC) by a score of 18-15 Saturday afternoon.
Senior attack Zac Carrigan recorded five points (3g, 2a), setting a new Mars Hill record for career points with 207 (153g, 54a).
Newberry carried a 9-5 lead heading into the second half with Baker Westmoreland recording a hat-trick in the first half of play. The Lions' offense heated up in the second, potting 10 goals.
Mars Hill entered the fourth quarter trailing 16-9 and allowed the first three goals of the frame. Despite scoring the last six goals of the contest, their comeback bid fell just short.
Curtis Bukta (2g, 4a) led all players with six points while Westmoreland (4g, 1a) finished with five. George Yanssens (3g) and Justin Lundy (1g, 2a) recorded three points on the day.
The Lions' tandem of Alex Oleschuk and Steven Smith made a combined 15 saves. Owen Latchford made 21 saves for the win.
Mars Hill closes out the 2022 season on Saturday, April 23 inside Meares Stadium on Senior Day. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
