Mars Hill routs Shorter in home opener
The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-1) defeated Shorter (0-3) by a score of 22-7 Saturday afternoon in their home opener.

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-1) defeated Shorter (0-3) by a score of 22-7 Saturday afternoon in their home opener.
The Lions netted 11 goals in the first 15 minutes of play and would go on to hold Shorter scoreless until the third quarter.
Mars Hill led 19-0 with just under nine minutes in the third before the Hawks were able to break the shutout bid.
The Lions offense was led by Zac Carrigan (5g, 3a) and Austin Stroud (2g, 6a) with their eight points apiece. Four of Carrigan's goals came with the man-advantage. Trevor Kennedy netted five goals and added two assists for seven points.
Frankie Villeneuve won nine faceoffs and netted his first career goal. Braden Hoskyn and Brandon Woodward each added two goals apiece.
Steven Smith made all 11 saves in his 36:01 of play to earn his second straight win.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 19 when they face Young Harris on the road. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
