Lions Track and Field Set New Standards at Berry
MOUNT BERRY, GA. – The Mars Hill men’s track and field team turned in a brilliant performance at the Victor Icebreaker Duals hosted by Berry College on Saturday, March 05.
MOUNT BERRY, GA. – The Mars Hill men's track and field team turned in a brilliant performance at the Victor Icebreaker Duals hosted by Berry College on Saturday, March 05. Several runners set new facility records and many more were able to obtain new personal records in the first outdoor meet of the season for the Blue and Gold.
Alex Griggs and Nathan Jones were able to put their names atop the all-time leaderboards at the track with each runner setting a new mark for meets to come. Griggs continued his impressive season with a victory in the 5k race while Jones was able to capture first place in the steeple chase, setting a new course record with a time of 9:55. Nick Resor and Daniel Lerner finished second and third, respectively in the steeple chase.
Gil Gilreath finished second behind Jones in the 5k while setting a new PR with a time of 15:26. Noah Allison fared well on the afternoon as he set a new personal record in the 5k, crossing the line in 15:45. Kenan Foxx was also able to set a new personal mark with a toss of 34 meters in the discus throw.
Rounding out the top performers for the Lions was Dontonio Garrison who set a new personal record in the 400 meters with a time of 53.07.
"It was an amazing meet for the first outdoor meet of the year", said assistant coach Brad Nagel. "We are right where we want to be and expect more great performances this season."
The Lions will be back in action on March 11-12 as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to participate in the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
