Marshall records fifth double-double in loss to Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-5, 1-5 SAC) was defeated by Tusculum (8-0, 8-0 SAC) Wednesday evening by a score of 69-46.
The Pioneers outscored Mars Hill 20-9 in the first quarter and 37-17 in the first half. With 3:13 remaining in the first stanza, the Lions closed the deficit down to four, 11-7, before Tusculum pulled away, scoring nine of the final 11 points. Jalia Arnwine led all players with 10 points in the frame.
Drew McMillan netted four points in the second quarter to lead the Lions, draining all four free throw attempts. Marta Rodrigues scored four of the Pioneers' 17 second quarter points. Tusculum hit six field goals in the quarter including three three-pointers.
Mars Hill took the third quarter by a score of 20-17 as De'Ja Marshall scored 15 of her 18 points in the frame. She also collected five rebounds. Arnwine added nine more points to her totals, hitting three three-pointers.
Tusculum closed out the contest by outscoring the Lions 15-9 in the fourth to remain undefeated for the 2020-21 season.
The Pioneers hit 10 three pointers on the night with Arnwine hitting five. She led all players with 25 points. Maddie Sutton added 11 while pulling down 15 rebounds for the double-double.
Marshall netted a team-high 18 including the lone three-pointer for the Lions. She added 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double in six games. Both Gabby Gianikos and Alexis Pardue added eight points on the night.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, January 16 when they take on Lincoln Memorial on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
