Mars Hill defeated on road versus LMU
The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-6, 1-6 SAC) was defeated by a score of 82-50 on the road versus the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial (5-3, 4-3 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-6, 1-6 SAC) was defeated by a score of 82-50 on the road versus the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial (5-3, 4-3 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
Lincoln Memorial used a monstrous first quarter to take a 28-7 advantage after 10 minutes of play. The Railsplitters hit five three-pointers, including three from Lindsay Proffitt to make up her nine first quarter points. Lauren Flowers added nine while Jordan Maney chipped in eight.
The second quarter saw a more tightly contested stanza as LMU outscored the Lions 16-15. De'Ja Marshall and Drew McMillan both netted five points apiece to lead Mars Hill while Maney led the Railsplitters with five in the second. Marshall led all players with eight rebounds in the frame.
The second half saw a similar outcome as the first with the Railsplitters putting up 27 points, nine off of free throw attempts. Kassidy Kenny led all players with nine points in the stanza while Gabby Gianikos scored seven to lead Mars Hill.
Mars Hill outscored the Railsplitters 13-11 in the final quarter as Selby Baughman scored a team-high five points. Marshall added four while both Gianikos and McMillan chipped in two apiece. Lexi Kiser scored nine of the team's 11 fourth quarter points.
Maney led all players with 19 points followed by Proffitt's 15 on the day. Flowers and Kenny each added 13. Grace Day collected 10 rebounds for the Railsplitters.
Marshall collected another double-double with 15 points and tying her career-high with 19 rebounds. Gianikos scored 13 and McMillan chipped in nine.
The Lions return home on Monday, January 18 when they host Carson-Newman. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
