Eagles use three ball to down Lions in SAC action

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-15, 2-15 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (14-1, 14-1 SAC) by a score of 99-61 Thursday night on the road.
Carson-Newman drained five three pointers in the opening quarter, leading to a 25-16 advantage after 10 minutes of play. Skylar Boshears netted eight points followed by Braelyn Wykle's six. De'Ja Marshall led the Lions with six points and seven rebounds.
The Eagles continued their strong shooting from beyond the arc, hitting another four, and shooting just under 59 percent from the floor, tacking on another 25 points. Wykle scored 11 while Marshall scored eight of the Lions' 12 in the second quarter.
In the highest scoring quarter of the contest, the Eagles outscored the Lions 31-20 as Wykle knocked down another 10 points. Gabby Gianikos led all players in the frame with 11 points. In the final 10 minutes of play, Drew McMillan hit both of her three-pointer attempts to lead all players with six points.
The Eagles hit 13 three-pointers in the contest, over 50 percent on the night. Wykle led all players with 27 points followed by Boshears 22. Marshall picked up her 11th double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Gianikos ended the game with 17 points and five assists.
Mars Hill hosts UVA Wise on Monday, February 22 at 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
