Cobras' late run downs Lions on road

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-13, 2-13 SAC) was downed late on the road versus Coker (6-9, 6-8 SAC) by a score of 78-70 Saturday afternoon.
With just under two minutes to play, the Lions capped off a 4-0 run to take a 70-68 lead. Raya Cooley, with 1:37 remaining, hit the lone Cobras' three-pointer of the frame to retake the lead. It was the catalyst for a Coker 10-0 run that completed their comeback bid.
The Cobras opened on a 6-0 run before the the Lions scored six of the next eight points to cut the deficit down to two. Mars Hill clawed their way back into the contest, taking their first lead of the game with 3:32 remaining in the first off of a Hannah Chandler layup. The Lions closed out the first on a 7-0 run to take a 26-18 lead into the second.
With 3:46 played in the second, the Cobras regained the lead, 29-27, and built their lead to 32-27, ending a 9-0 run with under five minutes remaining in the half. Mars Hill stormed back to close out the frame on a 12-1 run to enter the half, leading 41-33.
Kyla Daniels had eight of her 12 points in the first half followed by De'Ja Marshall's eight.
The third quarter saw Coker turn the tides, outscoring the Lions 27-19, entering the fourth tied at 60. Emily Davis netted 11 points for the Cobras while Gabby Gianikos dropped nine for Mars Hill.
Davis led all players with 17 points while Coley added 12 for the Cobras. Marshall led the Lions with 16 and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Gianikos finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
The Lions take to the road Monday night to face Wingate. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
