Women’s Soccer Loses at Lees-McRae
BANNER ELK, N.C. - Mars Hill's women's soccer team lost on the road at Lees-McRae College Wednesday night at Tate Field, 3-1. The Lions fell to 1-1 on the year while LMC improved to 2-1 on the season.
LMC scored the first goal of the match at the 7:52 mark when Emily Jones hit the back of the net off a pass from Kaitlyn Kerrigan. Abby Martin (Greer, S.C.) tied the match at 1-all less than two minutes later (9:19) when she scored an unassisted goal. Vickie Rich scored what would later prove to be the match winner at the 43:21 mark off a through ball by Jessica O'Leary. The teams took that score into the locker room at halftime.
O'Leary added an insurance goal in the 50th minute assisted by Rich to give the Bobcats a 3-1 advantage. The contest would not see any more scoring.
The Bobcats edged the Lions in shots on goal, 9-7. Each team had eight corner kicks while MHC was called offsides twice. Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) played 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made five saves. Brittany Bolton played the entire match in the net for LMC and made six saves.
Mars Hill will host Montreat College on Saturday afternoon. The game will start at 2 p.m.
