Just over three minutes into the second overtime frame, Paige Thompson received a pass from Sanne Martinsen inside the box and chipped it over the Pioneers' goalkeeper, Hannah Graham, to give the Lions their third win on the year. It was Thompson's first goal of the season.
Martinsen provided the Lions the opportunity to force the game into overtime. The freshman scored her seventh goal of the 2018 campaign with under four minutes remaining in regulation. Sending in a crossing pass, the ball deflected off of the keeper's hands and found its way into the back of the net to tie the game at one.
Six minutes into the second half, Sonja Ballmert scored her fourth goal of the season to give Tusculum the 1-0 advantage in the second half. They would go on to outshot the Lions 7-3 in the second half, but Tonje Jorgensen made four key saves to allow the Lions a chance at victory in overtime.
The Lions return home on Wednesday, October 24th, hosting Newberry inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
