Martinsen named to All-SAC Second Team
Mars Hill women's soccer's Sanne Martinsen was named to the All-SAC second team, as announced by the league Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Magda Mosengo was named the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Averi Williams was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year. Lincoln Memorial's Jessica Cravero was named the SAC Freshman of the Year and LMU head coach Sean Fraser was named the 2018 SAC Coach of the Year, the conference office announced today.
Mosengo, a senior from London, England, was the offensive force behind the Eagles fourth consecutive SAC Regular Season Title. The forward scored a conference leading 17 goals, was third in assists with six and led the league in points with 40. Mosengo is also ranked No. 8 nationally in goals per match and points per match with an average of 1.13 goals and 2.67 points per match.
Williams, a senior from Powell, Tenn., captained an Eagle defensive core that allowed just 15 goals in 16 matches, including seven shutouts. In addition to controlling the back line, Williams added her efforts to the offensive end of the field, scoring two goals and assisting on another for five points.
Cravero, a freshman from Montenerodibisaccia, Italy, made an immediate impact to the LMU lineup. She finished third in the conference in goals with 15, was ninth in assists with four and was third in points with 34. She is also ranked No. 19 in the nation in goals per match, averaging nearly a goal per match at 0.94.
Fraser led the Railsplitters to their most successful season in nearly a decade. They finished the regular season with a record of 11-4, going 7-3 in SAC play to finish second in the league. Under his leadership the Railsplitters scored 34 goals this season and allowed just 13 in 16 matches. Currently, LMU is ranked No. 9 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Women's Soccer Ranking.
Joining Mosengo, Williams and Cravero on the All-SAC first team were forwards Abbie Brown from Lenoir-Rhyne and Itzel Ballesteros from Lincoln Memorial.
Queens' Charlotte Ring, Catawba's Jovana Sanchez, Lenoir-Rhyne's Aqsa Mushtag and Lincoln Memorial's Mariana Diaz were all named to the first team midfield.
On defense were Alex Brandan of Carson-Newman, Claire Neibergall of Lenoir-Rhyne and Alyssa Berry of Lincoln Memorial, while Jackie Burns of Carson-Newman was named the first team goalkeeper.
