Lions Win Union Invitational
BARBOURVILLE, KY.-- The Mars Hill women's swimming team won the Union College Winter Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the Robert Stivers II Wellness Center.
The Lions swam their way to 281 points, which topped second place Union by 108 points. MHC swimmers set school records in the 200 Free Relay, 200 Breast and 100 Fly. Four Mars Hill swimmers earned individual victories, which resulted in a Lion placing first in seven events. The Lion women and men swimmers took home the combined title with 533 points.
The school-record setting 200 Free Relay team swam a time of 1:42.69. The team finished second and was made up of Nicole Day, Miranda Schmidt, Maggie Mills and Taylor Bugg.
Megan Bartlett set a new-school record in the 200 Breast with a finals time of 2:32.87. That time was good enough for first place in the event.
A 59.10 time from Nicole Day in the 100 Fly was the final new school-record set by Lion swimmers on the weekend. Day's time placed her second in the event. Day added victories in the 200 Back and 200 Free. Her winning time in the 200 Back (2:10.58) was six seconds better than the second-place finisher.
Elle Grier earned victories in three events for MHC. Grier's wins came in the 400 IM, 500 Free and 1650 Free events. Her 400 IM time of 4:54.27 was 15 seconds better than second-place.
Mars Hill will host King on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2:00 p.m.
