Lions Place Fifth in Appalachian Swim Conference
BARBOURVILLE, KY.-The Mars Hill women's swimming team placed fifth at the Appalachian Swim Conference Championship meet, held Thursday through Saturday at Union College.
BARBOURVILLE, KY.-The Mars Hill women's swimming team placed fifth at the Appalachian Swim Conference Championship meet, held Thursday through Saturday at Union College.
The Lions earned 369 points over the three-day event. Nicole Day finished first in the conference in the 50 Free and 200 Free. Lion women's swimmers broke five new school-recordsd at the event. Notre Dame College (Ohio) won the women's team championship with 558 points. Wheeling Jesuit took home the combined championship with 1255 points.

Day's victories in the 50 Free and 200 Free highlighted Saturday's action. Day won the 50 Free in 24.45, while her victorious 200 Free time was 1:57.10. Day previously broke the school-record in the 200 Back with a second-place finish.
The 400 Free Relay team placed fourth. The team was made up of Day, Elle Grier, Taylor Bugg and Maggie Mills and swam a 3:40.40. Day and Bugg also made up part of the fifth-place 400 Medley Relay team, which also consisted of Miranda Schmidt and Megan Bartlett. Each team set a new school-record with their times.
Bugg added an eighth-place finish in the 25.94. Grier finished eighth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:55.39. Grier's closing split of 31.85 allowed her to pass a couple swimmers on the last leg.
Today's performances capped off the three-day event. Other highlights from the past three days included the second-place finish by the 200 Free Relay team and a fourth-place finish by Mills in the 100 Free. The 200 Free Relay time was a new school-record. Bartlett set a new school-record in the 100 Breast.
The event concludes the Lions' team swim season. Mars Hill finished with a 10-1 record in dual meets in addition to their fifth-place finish in the Appalachian Swim Conference.
Up next for some Lion swimmers will be the NCAA Division II Championship, which runs Mar. 5-9 in Birmingham, Ala. Participants will be announced at a later date.
