Women's Cross Country Sets New Team Record at Royals XC Challenge
The Mars Hill women’s cross country team set a new school record for team average time for the second straight week. The new team mark for the 5-kilometer run is 19 minutes, 40 seconds.
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Mars Hill women's cross country team set a new school record for team average time for the second straight week as the Lions finished in fourth place at the Royal XC Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park. The new team mark for the 5-kilometer run is 19 minutes, 40 seconds.
Senior Jessica Viscusi finished in third place with a time of 18:20, five seconds shy of her personal best in the 5K. Viscusi was the top finishing NCAA Division II, Southeast Region and South Atlantic Conference runner. Classmate Faith Trammell finished in 16th with a season-best 19:08.
Freshman Kaleigh Jackson was the second-highest finishing SAC freshman, crossing the line in 32nd with a personal best 19:49. Senior Anje Kidd crossed the line in 49th with a personal best 20:21, followed by Savannah Hulbert in 65th with a time of 20:43. Shelby Robinson crossed the line in 69th with a mark of 20:45, and Megan Smith completed the Lions' scoring positions in 75th in 20:55.
Other finishers for Mars Hill included Dawn Radford (21:29), Andrea Wolfrey (22:44) Bianca Perira (22:53), Danielle Dunn (23:00), Leah Wilson (23:39), Vanessa Viscusi (23:53), Kierstyn Horton (24:27), Jessica Scott (24:50) and Cynthia Griffin (25:54). Wolfrey, Dunn and Scott each finished with new personal records, with Wolfrey and Dunn eclipsing their previous personal records by over a minute.
Jessy Scarpone led a 1-2 finish for SCAD Savannah, winning the race in 17: 50. SCAD Savannah was the winning team, finishing with 48 points. Tennessee Wesleyan finished in second with 78 points, followed by UNC Club XC with 165. Mars Hill finished with 165 points, besting SAC member Anderson who finished in sixth with 182.
The Lions travel to Alabama next weekend for the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo.
