Women's Cross Country Looks to Continue Strong Season at SAC Championships
The Mars Hill women’s cross country will look to continue their strong season Saturday at the South Atlantic Conference Championship.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's cross country will look to continue their strong season Saturday at the South Atlantic Conference Championship. The meet is hosted by Catawba College and will take place at Salisbury Community Park.
Jessica Viscusi was the overall winner at the season-opening Catawba Invitational and has been the top finishing Lion at five events this season. The senior has been named the AstroTurf Runner of the Week twice this season.
Faith Trammell has also had a strong senior season, crossing the line as the second-highest finisher for Mars Hill in five races. Freshman Kaleigh Jackson has had a strong debut season, consistently finishing among the Lions' top five in every event. Dawn Radford led the way for Mars Hill in their last race, the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on October 25. Viscusi earned First Team All-SAC honors last year, with Trammell earning Second Team recognition.
Mars Hill enters Saturday's meet as the fourth-ranked team in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings after beginning the season unranked. As a team, the Lions set a new school record for fastest average team time in a 5K at the Royals XC Challenge on October 11 with a new mark of 19:40.
The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m.
