Viscusi, Lions Claim USTFCCCA Academic Honors
Senior Jessica Viscusi earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association individual All-Academic honors, the organization announced Wednesday. Additionally, Mars Hill won team All-Academic accolades.
NEW ORLEANS – Senior Jessica Viscusi earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association individual All-Academic honors, the organization announced Wednesday. Additionally, Mars Hill won team All-Academic accolades.
Viscusi, a chemistry major with a 3.85 GPA, earned the South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Award this past season. She qualified for her second consecutive NCAA national championship meet, recording an 88th place finish. Viscusi was named to the USTFCCCA All-Region team and earned AstroTurf SAC Runner of the Week honors three times this season as well as First Team All-SAC honors. The Bryson City, N.C. native holds the second and third-fastest 5K times in program history.
Mars Hill earned team All-Academic honors for the second consecutive season with a 3.44 team GPA.
Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at his or her regional championship (total Division II teams in the region multiplied by seven runners per team) or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championship
A total of 262 women from 122 different institutions and 22 conferences were named to the individual All-Academic team. Leading the nation with seven All-Academic individuals were ninth-place finisher Roberts Wesleyan, 16th-place Western State and Northern Michigan. In order to be eligible for team All-Academic honors, a team must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA and score at an NCAA regional meet.
