Men's Track Finishes Second at Catamount Classic
The Mars Hill men’s track team finished in second place at the 2014 Beynon Catamount Classic.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's track team finished in second place at the 2014 Beynon Catamount Classic. The Lions finished with 69 points, trailing only host and NCAA track power Western Carolina.
Travis Riner set a new school record in the Shot Put with a meet-winning throw of 16.26 meters (53 feet, 4 inches). Riner successfully defended his Catamount Classic victory from 2013 and earned his fourth straight win in the event while improving to No.21 in the country. Riner finished in fourth place in the Discus.
Dwayne Boone won the High Jump with a new school record of 6 feet, 3 ¼ inches. Marcus Foster set a new school record in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 55.64. Marvin Fulwood set personal bests in the 100 Meters (11.21), 200 Meters (22.40) and 110 Meter Hurdles (15.53). Derek Gibson was the runner-up in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase. Michael Koch's Javelin throw of 118 feet was a new personal best. Chase Shermer set personal bests in the 800 Meter Run (1:59) and 1500 Meter Run (4:03). Cesar Reyes ' 800 Meter time of 1:57 is a personal record and is the second-best in the South Atlantic Conference.
Mars Hill will compete in the inaugural South Atlantic Conference championship meet next weekend in Hickory, N.C.
