Lions conclude SAC/CC Challenge with dominant win over SWU
Elyseia Brown netted 16 points and four steals in the win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (2-0) concluded the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge with an impressive 84-64 victory over Southern Wesleyan (0-2) Saturday afternoon.
Mars Hill jumped ahead early, leading 22-14 after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 48-32 by halftime. The second half saw the Lions maintain the offensive edge, outscoring the Warriors 36-32 in the final 20 minutes of play to open the season with back-to-back non-conference victories.
Elyseia Brown scored 16 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and added four steals in a well-rounded performance while Maddie Gillie added a team-high 18 points, including five three-pointers. Tateyoina Harris notched the double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lions capitalized on 19 turnovers from Southern Wesleyan, scoring 25 points off the mistakes. They also dominated the boards, racking up 22 second-chance points.
Next up, Mars Hill will travel to Lander for a game on Thursday, November 16, at 6 p.m.
