JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (13-9, 10-8 SAC) was defeated by Carson-Newman (16-6, 13-5 SAC), 98-75, in a SAC matchup Wednesday night.
The Lions shot 54.0% from the field but struggled to contain Carson-Newman's dominant inside presence, giving up 56 points in the paint. Aaliyah El led Mars Hill with 16 points and five assists, while Tateyoina Harris added 15 points and four rebounds. Maddie Gillie knocked down four threes, finishing with 14 points.
Carson-Newman was led by Lindsey Taylor, who had a dominant 38-point, nine-rebound performance on 17-of-19 shooting. Emily Gonzalez added 14 points and four assists, while Campbell Penland chipped in 10 points.
Mars Hill kept it close early, trailing 51-44 at halftime, but Carson-Newman pulled away in the second half, highlighted by a 27-point fourth quarter. The Lions look to bounce back against Lenoir Rhyne on the road in their next matchup.
