Lions defeat UVA Wise in return home

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (14-10, 11-9 SAC) defeated UVA Wise (10-13, 7-12 SAC) by a score of 76-59 Wednesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
After trailing 18-16 heading into the second, the Lions put up a game-high 28 points in the second quarter, holding the Cavaliers to just 10. Mars Hill hit 11 of their 18 shot attempts, shooting over 60 percent from the floor. Aaliyah El netted 11 points followed by eight from Tateyoina Harris, who also led the team with six rebounds in the second.
Sable Burnside led the Cavaliers with nine points in the third as they would go on to outscore Mars Hill 19-16, but could not cut into the Lions' lead enough as Mars Hill comfortably held on to their double-digit advantage after the fourth, outscoring UVA Wise 16-12 in the final 10 minutes of play to earn their 14th win of the season.
El hit 11 shots on the night, adding eight made free throws for a new career-high of 30 points. Harris collected yet another double-double on the season, scoring 19 and pulling down 13 rebounds. She led all players with three blocks.
Daisy Gale added 10 points while leading all players with four assists.
Mars Hill shot 54 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Cavaliers 45-20 in dominant fashion.
Mars Hill takes to the road on Saturday, February 15 when they face Anderson. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
