Mars Hill returns to action on road versus Catawba
SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (8-6, 5-5 SAC) fell to Catwaba (9-5, 7-3 SAC) by a score of 75-68 in their first game of 2025 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions trailed by three entering the second half with Maddie Gillie leading the team in scoring with nine points followed by Naja Ngongba's eight. The Catawba Indians extended their lead to 12 after outscoring Mars Hill 23-14 in the third quarter. Janiya Foskey, for the second straight quarter, led all players with eight points.
Mars Hill rallied in the the final 10 minutes of play to outscore Catawba 18-13, with Aaliyah El leading the team with six points.
Foskey led all players with 28 points and added nine rebounds. Bailee Goodlett added 13 on the night. El led Mars Hill with 15 points while Gillie ended the contest with 14 points. Lauren Arnold led all players with 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, January 8 when they face Lenoir-Rhyne. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
